CHILDREN’S BOOKS

‘mark mates

A series of picture books, wherein each book focuses on a singular landmark in the United Kingdom and personifies it into its own character.

THE PROBLEM
Children should be able to recognize how things around them are made, including natural landmarks and our relationship with them today.

THE OBJECTIVE
To encourage learning about things that are close to home in the UK or that they would be able to visit, things children might not have had the chance to learn about or see, could in turn inspire them to travel or go on a trip to see these natural landmarks.

THE WORK

+ Layout
+ Packaging
+ Branding
+ Copywriting

+ Advertising
+ Typography

THE THINKING
Some of the incredible bookstores I visited while in the UK, and thinking about children living in England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, that have the opportunity to visit some of the greatest natural wonders of the world in their backyard.

THE PROCESS
I developed each character after researching and visiting some of the landmarks featured in the book set. My own hand-lettered font was created to come across as friendly and easy to read considering the young audience.

THE AD STRATEGY

Juxtaposing statistics about the Tube, London’s underground rail system, with facts about each landmark.

THE EXPLORATION
Creating a solution comes from many sketches, iterations, prototypes, and best of all, mistakes. With constant feedback and analyzation at each step of the work, the process yields great results. Here’s a peek at some of the steps I flew between while working on ‘mark mates.
