Brook, AI Camping Device

A mobile device that uses artificial intelligence and hologram technology to assist people navigating their camping experience.

THE PROBLEM
People have shown interest in designing their own outdoor experiences with significant increases in the number of people who camp, yet this increase has left an effect on the environment and people’s safety.

THE OBJECTIVE
To help people up their camping trips and take them to the next level while remaining eco-conscious and safe.

THE WORK
+ Packaging
+ Branding
+ Copywriting
+ 3D printing
+ Target audience
+ UX & UI
+ Scene rendering
+ Advertising

THE THINKING
Understanding the numerous difficulties faced when going on a camping trip, I was inspired by the virtual assistant capabilities of the Amazon Alexa, along with the new developments in hologram technology (think Star Wars, but in real life). I wanted to put this artificial intelligence to work for good, not only thinking about how getting the chance to spend time outside should be an enjoyable experience, but how each person’s trace could be reduced with the help of technology.

THE PROCESS
The device needed to be compact and easily transportable, so I worked with a number of different shape options and attachments before 3D printing Brook.  Considering other devices that use speech synthesizing, the name of the device had to be short but familiar, to remain friendly and feel trustworthy with the target audience. I focused on reflecting the incredible capabilities of the device through a refined packaging experience accompanied by visuals to make the product come to life.

THE AD STRATEGY

Displaying Brook’s capabilities by pointing out common mistakes that happen while camping.

THE EXPLORATION
Creating a solution comes from many sketches, iterations, prototypes, and best of all, mistakes. With constant feedback and analyzation at each step of the work, the process yields great results. Here’s a peek at some of the steps I flew between while working on Brook.
