EXHIBITION

Pushing Paper

An exhibition on the life of Louisa May Alcott, the author of Little Women, in her own words taken from mostly her journals and letters.

PROBLEM
While many people know the story of Little Women, the influential life and impact of its author is not as well known.

OBJECTIVE
To inspire people to engage with writing about their own lives and experience her life in the mid 19th century.

OBJECTIVE
+ Experience
+ Space
+ Layout
+ Branding
+ Copywriting
+ Advertising

THE THINKING
Louisa had a love for writing, and recorded almost her entire life through journals, creating the perfect opportunity to learn about her through her own words. I wanted to create a new understanding of her life outside of Little Women, and reflect how writing changed her life and can change others.

THE PROCESS
Designing a 3D space, it’s all about scale and what the audience experiences as they go through the story you tell. I developed the exhibition following the arch of Louisa’s life, reflecting its impact on her and the audience at the same time.

THE EXPLORATION
Creating a solution comes from many sketches, iterations, prototypes, and best of all, mistakes. With constant feedback and analyzation at each step of the work, the process yields great results. Here’s a peek at some of the steps I flew between while working on Pushing Paper.
